How are you? Did your grad pictures come out alright? Are you trying too hard like always or have you cut yourself some slack yet?
I hope you’re doing alright. Not sure if you remember, but you’re feeling pretty fizzed out right now. Imposter syndrome is trying to get the better of you and you’re getting lost in all the amazing people around you. Just remember your path is never going to be the same as someone else’s.
I’m sure a lot has happened between when I’m writing this and when you may or may not be reading this, which is why I’m only writing to me six months in the future. I think it’s best if we focus on taking it one day at a time, rather than planning years ahead. As you know, a lot can change in a week. So no matter where you are or what you’re doing, here are two important things you have to remember:
1. There will always be jobs open.
2. You should be proud of how far you’ve come.
First of all, stop stressing about getting a job. You literally have the rest of your life to work. Enjoy your time as a free agent—no school, no work, just vibes. It’ll feel like everyone around you has it figured out (I promise they don’t) and like you need to move to a big city to start your career. But you have so much time. Be free. Go travel. Design some posters. Visit old friends. There will always be a job to apply to, there won’t always be time to do whatever you want.
Second of all, stop comparing yourself to others. You’re literally doing great. You’ve got your own book, plenty of internships under your belt, so many great connections, and you’re a MAIP alum. Be proud of your accomplishments. You’ve gotten this far for a reason, so believe in yourself a little more, okay?
That’s all I have for now. So chin up and drink lots of water! You’re going to be just fine.
